Inayama Fireflies Night

Early Jun. ~ Late Jun.

"Firefly watching" that used to be entertained in various places as a tradition of the summer in Japan can be seen in Fuefuki Yatsushiro town where the scenery of satoyama still remains. The people of "The Inayama Hotaru Galaxy Association" are working hard on the natural breeding of fireflies at the Yotsuzawa Sabo Park in the town. In the park, a "1km waterway of fireflies" and livable environment are being maintained in multiple ways. Please watch the light of fireflies that is fleetingly and fantastically dancing around.

800 years of history of Ukai is rooted in Fuefuki. Visitors are able to experience this traditional fishing "Ukai" or watch them perform by the riverside. In Fuefuki, Ukai is said to be "Kachiu" meaning a unique fishing method that cormorant fishermen actually go into the river to control the cormorant instead of riding on the boat. Once a year, everyone can feel this history as a real practice here at Fuefuki river.
